Boil Water Order Ends In Wichita
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Residents of Kansas’ largest city no longer need to boil their water.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced Oct. 9 that it was rescinding the order that was put in place on Oct. 7 after a large water main break. It affected the city’s nearly 400,000 residents and some surrounding communities, leading to widespread school closures on Friday.
Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple asked residents not to hoard bottled water, but many area store shelves were wiped out of water.
The all-clear announcement came after the city’s water samples tested negative for contamination; The Wichita Eagle reports.
Despite the good news in Wichita, some surrounding communities that receive their water from the city system remain under an advisory.
That’s mostly due to each individual utility having its own operating agreement with KDHE and having to complete its own testing period.
