West Virginia approves $26 million for water and sewer projects

(UI) — West Virginia's Water Development Authority (WDA) has approved $25.9 million in grants for water and sewer upgrades across the state. The funds will support projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, expanding service to new customers, and boosting economic development.

Water and Sewer Projects
The grants include funding for several water and sewer initiatives:

• Greater St. Albans Public Service District (Kanawha County): A $3.75 million grant will help provide sewer service to 300 new customers in the Tornado area, with a total project cost of $15 million.
• City of Parkersburg (Wood County): A $2.75 million grant will expand the Parkersburg Utility Board’s collection system for a new residential development. The project totals $5.52 million.
• City of Milton (Cabell County): An additional $2 million grant has been awarded for water system upgrades, bringing the total project cost to $4.8 million.
• Town of Cedar Grove (Kanawha County): A $1.5 million grant will replace and upgrade the sewer collection system, with a total cost of $4 million.
• Clay County Public Service District: A $1.5 million grant will fund pump station upgrades, covering the full project cost.
• Town of Anmoore (Harrison County): A $1 million grant will replace and upgrade sections of the town’s water system as part of a $3.55 million project.
• Boone County Public Service District: Two grants totaling $1.38 million will provide water service to a development park at the former Hobet surface mine and repair the Danville treatment plant. The combined projects total $7 million.
• City of Nitro (Kanawha County): A $800,000 grant will upgrade the city’s storm sewer system, part of a $2.89 million project.
• Greenbrier Public Service District No. 1: A $750,000 grant will extend wastewater service to the Meadowbrook Estates area, with a total cost of $2.5 million.
• Southern Jackson Public Service District: A $390,000 grant will construct a waterline to serve 120 new customers.
• Salt Rock Public Service District (Cabell County): A $210,000 grant will rehabilitate and upgrade a pump station, with a total cost of $2.16 million.

Economic Development Initiatives
The WDA has also approved funding for economic enhancement projects, including:

• Putnam County Development Authority: $5 million for housing infrastructure development.
• City of Wheeling: $2.5 million for upgrades to a downtown multi-use development in the Wheeling Historical District.
• City of Bridgeport: $900,000 for the Bridge Sports Complex.
• City of Weirton: $770,000 to upgrade the conference center.
• Upshur County Commission: $714,910 to build a regional recreational center.

Additionally, the Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council approved a $3.63 million grant for the Marion Regional Development Corporation to prepare a 12-acre site for commercial use in the High Technology Park.

These investments aim to improve public services and attract economic growth across West Virginia.
