John Deere Unveils 350 P-Tier and 380 P-Tier Mid-Sized Excavators

John Deere released the newly enhanced 350 P-tier and 380 P-tier excavators to its mid-size excavator lineup.

These first excavator models launched as part of the company’s new Performance Tiering strategy, support on-demand safety, comfort, and control — all while delivering the power needed in demanding, high-production applications.

To help lower daily operating costs, the machines’ fuel economy is up 7 percent compared to previous models. This is due to electric, on-demand cooling fans that reduce engine load, in-line after treatment for less restriction and system complexity, along with increased front piping diameter to cut down hydraulic restriction.

Both excavators offer SmartGrade technology as a factory option and field upgrade kits. Grade management options – 2D guidance, 3D guidance, 2D SmartGrade Ready Control, and SmartGrade 3D Control – allow customers to choose a level of technology that’s right for them, with the ability to upgrade as their business grows.

Front LED work lights come standard, and the option of a right, rear and left camera system, with LED-surround lighting, provides enhanced 270-degree visibility.

Outside the cab, both models are equipped with a new, larger hood design and better serviceability. Each cooler is individually removable, and operators or technicians have easier access within the compartment.

Deere & Company, Moline, Ill., is a world leader in providing advanced products, technology and services for customers whose work is revolutionizing agriculture and construction — those who cultivate, harvest, transform, enrich and build upon the land to meet the world’s increasing need for food, fuel, shelter and infrastructure.

New Vermeer Maxi Rig Delivers More Power, Less Noise

Vermeer unveiled the newest generation of maxi rig drills, with its 550,000-pound (249,475.8-kg) D550 crawler-mounted horizontal directional drill (HDD).

This powerful drill leads its class with 100,000 foot-pounds (135,581 Nm) of torque and is loaded with performance features and technology that help crews work efficiently installing large-diameter products, including oil and gas pipelines, water lines and high-voltage electrical transmission lines, at long distances.

New HDD technology integrated into D550 enable an optimal operational and service experience for contractors. Onboard telematics give drill operators and service technicians greater access to important diagnostics information.

Operationally, the D550 controls have three different auto drilling modes — rotation, thrust and speed. It can also deliver a steady, ultra-slow speed control for working in challenging hard rock.

In addition to new technology, D550 also features many mechanical enhancements. A full travel vise can be positioned up and down the rack, as needed, for making/breaking tooling and optimizing efficiency during casing installation.

The engineered hydraulic transmission delivers the peak amount of torque at high rotational speeds, for boring in challenging clay conditions, while system pressures remain low to help maximize component life.

Also, it’s quiet, which helps keep job-site sound levels down and reduces the need for sound barriers when working in urban areas.

Houston Approves Use of SuperCover for I&I Prevention

The city of Houston recently approved the use of SuperCover. The composite manhole cover is designed to effectively prevent much of the issues caused by infiltration and inflow (I&I).

Infiltration, with respect to manhole covers, is groundwater that enters the system through defects in cast iron covers, such as corrosion and pick holes. Inflow is surface water that enters wastewater systems from above ground, through defects in a manhole and manhole covers.

I&I causes water treatment facilities to become less efficient in their process, resulting in more manpower and equipment overhead. Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO), via manhole covers in a given municipal sanitary sewer, occurs when raw, untreated sewage exits the system

SuperCover’s construction is comprised of two gaskets: one seals the cover to the manhole, the other seals the SureSeal insert dish to the frame of the manhole cover. SureSeal is the fortification against I&I by providing an added barrier between entries and the manhole.

Caterpillar

cat.com

Caterpillar launched a new smart creep feature for the full range of Cat D3 skid steer loaders (SSL) and compact track loaders (CTL) operating Cat cold planer and wheel saw attachments. Smart creep senses the load on the attachment and automatically adjusts the drive command to keep the cold planer or wheel saw running at the most-productive speed.

A combination of sensors and proprietary software optimally balances attachment load and machine speed to maximize productivity. By continually sensing the load on the attachment, smart creep increases machine speed when encountering less resistance.
