New Products

Ditch Witch

Ditch Witch, a Charles Machine Works Company, introduced several  “EVOLUT40N” underground construction products and solutions, including the newest HDD in the fleet.
The AT40 all-terrain unit features an advanced, two-pipe drilling system that provides 33 percent more torque than competitive units.

Several patent-pending features improve downhole operation, such as an inner-rod design that increases tool-joint durability and steering in hard-rock conditions. To further improve steering and optimize fluid flow, a reliable All-Terrain connection reduces the risk of collar damage.

An enhanced RockMaster housing results in extended longevity and reduced maintenance. The modular design makes the housing adaptable to two different sizes of drill bit, allowing a 2.875 and 3.5 regular api connection. A patented floating-spindle design makes it easier and more cost effective to replace. An industry-exclusive, double-layer seal with high-capacity bearings delivers increased downhole life, superior reliability and doubles service time intervals compared to previous models.
Leveraging the best-in-class power of the standard JT40 model, a 160-gross-horsepower, Tier 4 Cummins diesel engine offers 40,000 pounds of thrust and pullback. Improved drilling efficiency is provided by a two-speed, rotational drive system that produces 5,500 foot-pounds of torque, and a 70-gpm, 1,100-psi mud pump increases fluid flow from the pump to the swivel.
Other new and updated equipment included fluid-management systems, like the MR90 Mud Recycler, that improve drilling fluid flow, and provide faster mixing cycle and yield times.
In addition to new equipment, ICUEE attendees could also test the Ditch Witch HDD virtual reality training simulator, and an all-terrain technology area showcased the ultimate HDD tooling solutions for drilling in challenging rock conditions.
