UCTA Gulf Coast Debuts “Innovative Technology Transfer”
As a change-up to its usual lunch-and-speaker format, the Underground Technology Association (UCTA) Gulf Coast chapter hosted an Innovative Technology Transfer event on Aug. 3. Eleven vendors exhibited and presented the latest construction, restoration and rehabilitation products and services.
Displays and information covered best practices in centrifugally cast, fiberglass-reinforced, polymer mortar (CCFRPM) and glass reinforced plastic (GRP) pipe; cured-in-place-pipe, pipe bursting, sliplining, direct jacking and microtunneling; geopolymer lining systems and chemical grout; inspection, cleaning and damage prevention; and HD composite manhole ring and cover.
Attendees, representing industry-related contractors, engineers, consultants, municipal employees, manufacturers and academia, visited the vendor displays before and after lunch. During lunch, vendors presented their specific products and services to the group – limited to a strict four minutes each.
In introductory comments, chapter President Collis Parrish emphasized that the Innovative Technology Transfer was another example of what UCTA is all about.
“What we’re here for is to learn about and share knowledge that helps us and the future generation advance underground technology and solve community problems,” said Parrish.
In the true spirit of transfer, the idea came from another UCTA chapter.
“When we went to the UCTA-South Texas Innovative Technology Transfer in San Antonio about a year ago, we knew we wanted to bring it to the Gulf Coast chapter,” said Wayne Brown, a UCTA Gulf Coast board member.
The Houston event certainly lived up to expectations. It was equally successful, and vendors and attendees, alike, appreciated all the effort put forth to make it happen.
