Innovative System Notifies Pennsylvania American Water Of Water Emergencies

Pennsylvania American Water, the largest water utility in its namesake’s state, has deployed a high-speed notification system – CodeRED – in an effort to rapidly alert customers of water emergencies. The system allows residents to set their personal preferences for contact methods and then facilitates notifications via phone, text and email.

The innovative system was implemented in an effort to achieve rapid response and communications to a large number of customers, in the event of an emergency such as boil water advisories, significant main breaks, water conservation requirements and other major events that could impact or impede water service. The system will also be utilized for non-urgent notifications, such as planned service outages, local hydrant flushing, low-pressure events and major traffic impacts. Additionally, the alerts and a map of affected areas will be posted on the company’s website.

CodeRED will automatically send emergency alerts to all phone numbers and email addresses on record.

The innovative system also offers a free mobile app that communicates via location-based alerts. Customers who download the app will receive Pennsylvania American Water alerts, along with other public safety information sent by organizations using CodeRED. 610-670-7789, www.amwater.com.
