Fluor Foundation Grants $1 Million To University of Houston College of Technology
Fluor Foundation, the philanthropic organization of Fluor Corporation, presented $1 million to the University of Houston (UH) College of Technology for the establishment of the Fluor-UH Industrial Construction Management Education Partnership, focusing on research and professional development.
An advanced milestone in the 25-year relationship between Fluor and UH, the partnership will assist in supporting the implementation of a Work-Integrated Education Program. The program will integrate industry-best practices and project examples into the curriculum, allowing students to cultivate a distinctive skillset and perspective through solution development for real-world construction challenges.
The $1 million grant is the largest in the UH Construction Management program’s history; the university launched the nation’s first industrial construction management curriculum in 2011, backed by strong industry involvement and support. Fluor not only supported this implementation, but also has representatives serving on the UH Process & Industrial Construction Management Industry Advisory Board, as well as teach classes within the department.
“Fluor’s record-setting grant will help us achieve one of our key goals – ensuring that UH students are focused on learning skills that are directly relevant to the industry and to the needs of our city and state,” said University of Houston President Renu Khator.
Fluor’s investment in UH represents part of the company and foundation’s commitment to the communities where its employees live and work. Fluor invests in programs that encourage students to pursue science, technology, engineering, math and construction disciplines. 469-398-7621, www.fluor.com, www.uh.edu/technology.
