Ditch Witch expands vac excavation portfolio with Tornado Infrastructure acquisition
Ditch Witch, a subsidiary of The Toro Company, announced plans to expand its vacuum excavation portfolio through Toro’s acquisition of Tornado Infrastructure Equipment Ltd., a Canadian manufacturer of hydrovac trucks and infrastructure solutions.
The transaction, pending regulatory approval, builds on a 2022 collaboration between the two companies that produced the Ditch Witch Warlock Series of hydrovac trucks, including the W12 and W8 models. These units have been adopted by contractors for their enhanced digging power and capacity on demanding underground projects.
Based in Calgary, Alberta, Tornado is known for its precision excavation systems designed to safely expose utilities and other underground assets using high-pressure water or air and powerful vacuum systems. Ditch Witch said the acquisition will broaden its offerings across energy, power transmission, and water infrastructure markets while strengthening its position in global underground construction.
Kevin Smith, president of Ditch Witch, said the deal represents a continuation of the company’s long-term partnership with Tornado and reinforces its goal of delivering safer, more efficient excavation technologies.
