$9 million sewer repair project underway in New Roads, La.
According to WRBZ News, the city of New Roads, Louisiana, is commencing work on a long-overdue sewer repair project. New Roads Public Works Director Cletus Langlois told WRBZ News that 13 out of 16 sewer lift stations are in failure, and the city’s sewer systems have fallen into neglect without the proper maintenance being done.
A sewer lift station is used to move wastewater from a lower elevation to a higher elevation, and when these stations fail, it can cause problems for residents.
WBRZ spoke with several New Roads residents who have noticed sewer problems that have occurred in the past. Residents mentioned seeing overflow coming up from the underground piping to above the manhole covers.
Langlois said that they now have nearly $10 million in funds available for the project, and the repair work will go ahead. $6.1 million has come from water sector funding, another $1.5 million from bond money, and $1 million in corporate funding. Langlois noted they plan to spend nearly $9 million on the sewer repair project.
Langlois hopes to have the whole system done by this time next year.
