Maryland's Howard County begins sewer rehabilitation under Little Patuxent River

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (UI) — Howard County has launched construction on a sewer rehabilitation project to replace and reconnect 150 feet of 12-inch pipe crossing the Little Patuxent River between U.S. 29 and Lake Kittamaqundi in Columbia.

The work involves replacing the existing line and tying it into the 42-inch interceptor sewer. The project aims to improve hydraulic performance, enhance reliability and prevent future sewer overflows, according to the Department of Public Works (DPW).

Weather permitting, construction is expected to be completed by January 2026.

DPW coordinated the project alongside the Columbia Association’s Lake Kittamaqundi dredging work to minimize disruption. Signage, closures and detours around the area will be managed by the Columbia Association.
