Two workers injured in Wash. trench collapse; stop-work order issued
Two workers were rescued following a trench collapse at a housing construction site in Prosser on Sunday morning, as reported by West Benton Fire Rescue and the Tri-City Herald. Both individuals were transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, with one being airlifted and the other taken by ground transport.
Emergency services, including Prosser police and West Benton Fire Rescue, responded to the incident at 1401 Kinney Way around 11:30 a.m. Sunday. City officials conducted an inspection of the site after the collapse and found that proper trench safety measures were not implemented.
As a result, the city issued a stop-work order to Paul and Julie Almanza, the contractors from Granger, Washington. The order referenced violations of Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations included in the Prosser Municipal Code, stating that the trenches and excavations must be filled in.
As of Sunday afternoon, no additional information was available regarding the workers' conditions or the details surrounding the incident at the site.
