Texas construction worker killed in trench collapse; OSHA investigation underway
(UI) — A 38-year-old worker had died following a trench collapse at a job site in East Texas, prompting a federal safety investigation, according to CBS19.
The victim, identified as Abraham Gomez Cruz of Hutchins, was working in the 1000 block of North State Highway 198 near Mabank when the trench gave way on June 18.
Emergency crews responded quickly, pulling Cruz from the collapsed ditch and administering CPR before transporting him to a nearby hospital in Gun Barrel City. Despite efforts to save him, he later died from his injuries, CBS19 reported.
The Mabank Police Department offered condolences, calling the incident a "heartbreaking tragedy" and extending sympathies to Cruz’s loved ones and colleagues.
Authorities confirmed that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the cause of the collapse.
