Duck Creek sewer project progresses in Davenport, Iowa, new trail closures set
(UI) — The Duck Creek Sewer Interceptor project, a $16.25 million initiative to enhance Davenport's sewer infrastructure, is advancing to its next phase. As part of the ongoing work, sections of the Duck Creek Recreational Trail will reopen while others close for construction.
Trail users will be pleased to hear that the section between Pine and Hickory Grove Road has officially reopened. However, starting Jan. 6, the stretch between Hickory Grove Road and Fairmount will close as crews begin deep sewer line work, with trenches reaching depths of 30 feet. This phase is expected to continue through the winter, weather permitting.
The project spans nearly five miles and includes installing new sewer lines to connect the city’s western boundaries to its current system, replacing an outdated wastewater treatment lagoon near I-280. Despite challenging conditions earlier this year, including difficult soils and heavy rainfall, significant progress has been made.
According to city updates, no additional long-term trail closures are anticipated during the 2025 construction season once this phase is completed in the spring. When finished, the project will represent a major improvement to the city’s sewer infrastructure.
