Authorities investigating trench collapse that killed worker in Ashburn, Va.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Thursday morning trench collapse that resulted in the death of one worker.
According to a LoudonNow news report, on the morning of Thursday, April 10, a trench collapsed in the 19000 block of Belmont Ridge Road in Ashburn, trapping one worker underground. Deputies responded just before 11 a.m., and members of the Loudoun County Combined Fire Rescue System launched an immediate rescue effort.
After a rapid and coordinated response, the worker (an adult male) was extricated and transported to a nearby hospital, where he later was pronounced dead. The local Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the incident in collaboration with Virginia - Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and authorities are not releasing any further details about the victim at this time.
