Sinkhole in Texas town accrues over $800,000 in sewer rehabilitation costs
(UI) – According to ABC13 Eye Witness News, a city in Montgomery, Texas, has approved over $45,000 in funding after its utility discovered sever damage to the main sewer line from an underground sinkhole.
Oak Ridge North approved a $45,242 expense on Aug. 12 in an effort to prevent loss of services with emergency repairs. South Montgomery County’s Municipal Utilities District said it found roughly 20 ft of ductile iron pipe and a manhole near the sinkhole.
While emergency repairs cost over $30,000, the city identified even further damage, involving over 1,700 ft of iron pipe and 14 manholes. Now, SMC MUD is planning more sewer rehabilitation projects to prevent further emergency services.
SMC MUD is performing a study to determine the “best course of actions,” according to ABC13. The utility estimates that improving the main pipeline will cost $828,000.
