Pennsylvania town receives $6.4 million for wastewater treatment upgrades
(UI) – Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) and Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-171) have announced that Bratton Township will receive over $6.4 million in state funding to upgrade its wastewater treatment plant.
“Clean water and efficient water treatment is one of the most vital needs a community has,” Ward said. “This PENNVEST funding will help Bratton Township continue to provide this necessary service and create a clean and safe community for its residents.”
The project includes constructing a new building to screen incoming wastewater and installing new treatment tanks at the wastewater treatment plant. Additionally, two pump stations will be replaced, and the existing ultraviolet disinfection system will be upgraded.
“The award by PENNVEST will allow residents to avoid an 180% increase in user fees,” Benninghoff stated. “This is an extensive but much-needed overhaul in the township’s infrastructure, in addition to being a necessary investment in the health and safety of our community.”
The funding consists of a loan of more than $900,000 and nearly $5.5 million in grants that do not require repayment. The 20-year loan carries a 1% interest rate.
The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) provides this funding to assist with sewer, stormwater, and drinking water projects across the commonwealth.
