Fairbank Silverthorn storm trunk sewer system project reaches major milestone
(UI) - The City of Toronto saw a new milestone for their Fairback Silverthorn Storm Trunk Sewer System Project with the completion of tunneling for the project, according to Daily Commercial News. The 1.9 mi (three km) tunnel completion is part of infrastructure improvements that include installing new storm sewers, constructing a large storm trunk sewer and installing inlet control devices (ICDs) to manage the flow of stormwater to catch basins.
The project also falls under the city’s broader Basement Flooding Protection Program, with a combined $323.2 million between federal and city funding committed so far. Phase one of the project is expected to be completed in 2025, with phase two to begin in Q3 2024, running until 2027. Phase two involves an additional 10.6 mi (17 km) of new storm sewers and additional ICDs—approximately 330.
