Lexington's Southbend Drive closed for sanitary sewer construction
(UI) — Southbend Drive in Lexington, Kentucky underwent a closure starting June 17, extending from Clays Mill Road to Lafayette Parkway. The closure was necessary for the construction of a new sanitary sewer line at the creek crossing. Residents retained access to their homes throughout the construction period.
The project forms a crucial part of the Wolf Run Trunk F sanitary sewer initiative, aimed at replacing and enlarging over 3,500 feet of sanitary sewer line along Wolf Run Creek, spanning from Spring Meadows Drive to Lafayette Parkway. Scheduled completion aligns with the reopening of the road in time for the start of the Fayette County Public Schools term on August 14.
Motorists can detour via Reed Lane, a nearby alternative running parallel between Clays Mill Road and Lafayette Parkway.
This construction effort falls under Lexington's commitments pursuant to a court-ordered consent decree with the Environmental Protection Agency, aimed at enhancing the city's sanitary sewer infrastructure.
