Sewer service restored in West Maui after fires damage infrastructure
7/26/2024
(UI) — The Maui County Department of Environmental Management’s Wastewater Reclamation Division has updated the sewer service status for several areas of West Maui.
The status has changed from "red," indicating no active sewer service, to "green," meaning the service is now active in the following areas:
- Near Puʻunoa Place and Ala Moana Street near the Jodo Mission
- South of Lahainaluna Road near Paunau Street
DEM Director Shayne Agawa announced the updates on July 17 at the Weekly Disaster Recovery Community Update Meeting at Lahaina Civic Center.
Some wastewater infrastructure was damaged during recent fires, cutting off service to many properties in affected areas. The department plans to continue amending sewer service status for other areas impacted by the August 2023 wildfires in the coming weeks and months.
