REHAU achieves fourth consecutive gold certification for sewer pipe systems
(UI) — REHAU announced that it has achieved the prestigious Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold classification for its AWADUKT PP sewer pipe systems for the fourth consecutive time.
This certification reaffirms the company's unwavering dedication to recyclable construction materials and provides crucial evidence to local authorities, planners, and developers regarding their investment in sustainable infrastructure.
Sustainability is playing an increasingly significant role in civil engineering, and REHAU is at the forefront of this movement. As the first company in the market to consistently embrace closed material cycles in line with Cradle to Cradle Certified, its AWADUKT PP SN 10 / HPP SN 16 sewer pipe systems have now earned Gold certification for the fourth time.
During the rigorous re-certification process, both the products and the production facility in Viechtach, as well as the REHAU Management System, underwent thorough evaluation across the five Cradle to Cradle categories: material health, product circularity, clean air and climate protection, water and soil stewardship, and social fairness.
This high classification demonstrates that AWADUKT PP sewer pipe systems excel in technology, sustainability, and recyclability. It serves as tangible proof that sustainability objectives are being met in civil engineering, encompassing the use of materials conducive to the circular economy, the utilization of green electricity in production, and social responsibility in the supply chain.
REHAU's commitment to sustainability has resulted in improved ratings since its previous certification two years ago. Some notable enhancements include:
- Full Recyclability: Once elastomer seals are removed, AWADUKT PP sewer pipe systems become 100% recyclable. REHAU has introduced a returns concept for offcuts on construction sites and dismantled pipes.
- Increased Renewable Energy Usage: Production of AWADUKT PP sewer pipe systems now relies entirely on 100% renewable energies, up from 60% two years ago.
- Carbon Emission Offset: At least 50% of CO2 emissions generated during internal transportation are now offset by supporting verified climate protection projects, such as wind power expansion in Brazil.
- Water Conservation: At the Viechtach production site, responsible water usage is integrated into the environmental management system according to ISO 14001 standards, resulting in a 16% reduction in water consumption over the past two years.
"The sustainability of our company and products is one of the REHAU Group's principal strategic goals,” Thomas Graf, head of the water infrastructure subdivision, said. “This Gold certificate is further confirmation of this commitment and clearly demonstrates our dedication to our partners and customers."
REHAU's achievement of four Gold and one Platinum classifications underscores its ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation in civil engineering.
