New Bern, N.C., takes action to address 'compromised' sewer lines in repair project
(UI) — Sewer line repairs in New Bern, North Carolina, are anticipated to cost more than $1 million, WNCT-TV reported.
The Board of Aldermen unanimously decided to tentatively award the bid for this sewer improvement at their most recent meeting. Phase two of the northwest interceptor rehabilitation project involves addressing structural compromises in approximately 2,000 linear feet of piping.
Between South Glenburnie Road and Trapper's Trail, construction will take place. The entire sewage system will need to be replaced, according to city officials.
“As with aging infrastructure, we found that over time a lot of concrete structural integrity had weakened and that’s why the concrete had collapsed,” New Bern Public Information Officer Colleen Roberts said according to WNCT-TV.
The North Carolina ARPA funding has also given the city more than $200,000 to aid with the project.
