Governor Ivey pledges $67 million to 27 water and sewer projects across Alabama
(UI) — Governor Kay Ivey has unveiled a comprehensive plan for over $67 million in funding across 27 projects. These transformative initiatives, backed by the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 (GoMESA), are set to rejuvenate sewer infrastructure, elevate water quality standards, and enhance vital research and recreational access points.
During a gathering at the GulfQuest Maritime Museum, Governor Ivey highlighted the pivotal role of these projects, aligning with the original intent and authorized use of GoMESA funds. With a resolute focus on sewers, water quality improvements, research endeavors, land acquisitions, and enhanced recreational access, these initiatives embody a bold step forward for Alabama's waterways.

Among the projects, a resolute commitment to improving water quality in Mobile Bay takes center stage. Governor Ivey shared her vision for a more resilient port, emphasizing that a portion of the funds will be channeled towards studying ways to enhance the port's resiliency and elevate scientific knowledge about Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
