ACEC Recognizes Contractor for Work on New York Natural Gas Pipeline

Ecology and Environment Engineering, P.C. (E & E) has been awarded the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York) Platinum Engineering Excellence Award in the Environmental category. The prestigious award recognizes E & E’s pioneering work on Williams Gas Pipelines’ Rockaway Delivery Lateral Project, a 3-mile, 26-inch offshore pipeline that provides natural gas from the existing Transco pipeline in New York Bay to the Rockaways. It is one of only two new delivery points for interstate natural gas infrastructure into New York City in over 40 years.

From inception through construction, the company guided site selection, developed the permitting and mitigation strategy, and completed environmental review, agency coordination, permit development, and compliance implementation. By working collaboratively with all stakeholders, E & E developed a win-win mitigation strategy to enhance the Rockaway Reef, a designated artificial reef area in the Atlantic Ocean seaward of the Rockaway Peninsula.

“We are very pleased that the Rockaway project has been recognized by ACEC New York,” said E & E’s Project Manager Sara Mochrie. “Our proactive approach to environmental aspects of the project during permitting and construction allowed the designers to incorporate environmental constraints effectively. E & E is proud to have helped Williams achieve their goal of developing a reliable and sustainably constructed natural gas supply to the New York City region.”
