Black & Veatch Makes Leadership Change

Black & Veatch has named Bruce Duff Managing Director of Design-Build within its water business. Duff will be based in the Company’s Toronto metro area office.

“As a variety of alternative delivery methods continue to gain traction in the industry, this leadership role was established and integrated within our water business to ensure quality and value to our clients,” said Cindy Wallis-Lage, President of Black & Veatch’s water business. “Bruce brings strong risk and financial management expertise that will ensure our clients get the maximum return on their water infrastructure investments.”

Under the design-build model, an engineering and construction firm is hired by a project owner to oversee all aspects of the project, giving the owner a single point of contact throughout the construction process. In this new role at Black & Veatch, Duff will lead the global design-build platform for the delivery of water facilities and related infrastructure. He will also manage risk across the water business’ design-build portfolio.

Duff has more than 35 years of experience managing water and wastewater projects and has played key roles in construction, safety management, strategic planning, business process improvements and staff development for projects globally. Over the past 20 years, he has overseen design-build projects in the United States in water, wastewater and adjacent markets.

Duff spent the early portion of his career as a project manager, resident engineer and mechanical engineer on a number of projects throughout North Africa, the Middle East, Singapore, the Caribbean and Canada.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Toronto and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Project Management Institute.
