Cemen Tech Expands Production, Staffing to Meet Growing Demand, Challenges

After six consecutive years of double-digit sales growth – including during the pandemic – Cemen Tech is ramping up its production capabilities to meet the increased demand.

The Iowa-based, mid-size advanced manufacturing company has incorporated a second production shift and is increasing its staffing levels by more than 25 percent. And it’s doing so in a tight labor market.

When complete, a total team member count of 250 will build the company’s best-in-class volumetric mixer technology, which enables contractors to mix their concrete on the job site – and to exact specifications needed. As a result, contractors are more nimble – getting concrete on their own timeline – and are able to reduce material waste and, ultimately, cost.

“We’re at a pivotal moment in our company’s history,” said Connor Deering, Cemen Tech CEO. “Construction contractors in a wide range of fields are looking for innovative ways to take more control of their scheduling and materials costs. And they’re telling us that they see volumetric concrete mixers as an effective way to do that.”

In addition to hiring new staff, the company is also investing nearly $3 million to expand and upgrade facilities, equipment and technology. This will increase output, while improving worker safety.

Willhelm, provides 96 million gallons a day of water to GCWA’s five major Texas City refining and petrochemical customers – Dow Chemical, BP Products, Valero, Marathon Petroleum, and Eastman Chemical Company. The new pump station, which was

Completed in July 2021, the new pump station is the single largest capital investment by the water authority in decades. Arcosa Shoring Products Unveils Online, In-Person Trench Safety Training

Arcosa Shoring Products now offers critical trench safety training for all U.S. and Canadian excavation construction personnel.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires a “competent person” to be able to identify potential dangers of all excavation worksites, related to the OSHA Subpart
P–Excavation standards, and enforce the regulated trench safety best practices on all excavation projects.

Arcosa’s new instructor-led course explains the duties and responsibilities of the competent person and explores the many best practices in trench safety.

“It’s a proven fact: trench safety training saves lives,” said James McRay, Arcosa Shoring Products’ trench safety training coordinator. “However, this important training isn’t always readily available to contractors or municipalities who are performing the vital, but also potentially dangerous, excavation construction or repair.”

That’s why the remote, via Zoom, Competent Person Training (CPT) is offered on the fourth Wednesday of each month. It’s also conducted in-person at the manufacturer’s training facility in Mason, Mich. Upon completion of the one-day course, attendees receive a certificate, wallet-sized card and other materials that indicate their qualification as a “competent person” on any excavation job site.

In addition, the company periodically offers a three-hour Trench Safety Awareness course for municipal DPWs or contractors who need employees to be aware of the dangers of excavation work and how to take proper safety precautions, but not perform as the company’s “competent person.”

Arcosa Shoring Products, part of Arcosa Inc.’s Construction Products Division, is one of the largest trench protection equipment manufacturers in the country. The company operates its sales, marketing, and dealer network under the legacy brands: GME, Pro-Tec Equipment, and Efficiency Production. •
