Water Jet Saw Boosts Hobas Pipe’s Fittings Process, Product

In continuing efforts to deliver the highest-quality products, quickly and cost effectively, Hobas Pipe USA has invested in a water jet saw. Now used on 85 percent of Hobas Pipe fittings, the new, upgraded equipment improves both process and product.

Computer-controlled software enables centrifugally cast, fiberglass-reinforced, polymer mortar (CCFRPM) pipe to be custom-designed and -manufactured to the appropriate dimensions, 50 percent faster than manual cutting. An 80-mesh crushed garnet increases the saw’s effectiveness by four times, and high operating pressure (52,000 to 55,000 pounds per square inch) reduces the delamination for composite material when piercing and cutting the pipe.

It’s also more environmentally friendly. “Since cutting is done in a wet environment, no dust is generated as with past methods,” said Joe Moles, production manager.
Hobas CCFRPM pipe is inherently corrosion resistant, lasting 100 years or more. Applications include storm and sanitary sewers, potable water, force mains, outfalls, industrial effluents and other corrosive environments; and virtually every installation method.
