CNX Awarded Fiber Broadband Development Contract In Kentucky
Warren County Fiscal Court awarded Connected Nation Exchange (CNX) a contract for fiber broadband development on behalf of Warren County, KY in the advancement of the county’s goal to provide fiber-based broadband services throughout the county.
CNX will develop technical and financial models in an effort to identify the best path for establishing public-private partnerships to invest in infrastructure and provide advanced broadband services to Warren County residents, businesses and community institutions such as schools, libraries, healthcare facilities and public safety agencies.
The project was hastened by the beginning phases of construction for the state’s KentuckyWired middle mile network, which will deliver all Kentucky counties with more options to develop faster and more cost-effective high-speed networks, locally.
The state’s progression on the new middle mile network enables Warren County officials to proceed in a more deliberate way than allowed in the past, said County Judge Executive, Mike Buchanon.
KentuckyWired is the statewide network of fiber optic lines that will carry high-speed internet into specific locations in every county throughout the state; local private or public Internet Service Providers (ISPs) can then lease affordable fiber-optic access, connect their last-mile networks to KentuckyWired, and provide broadband to individual homes and businesses. The system will remain open access, which will allow for any ISP to lease fiber connectivity.
Kentucky is unlocking the power of broadband by unleashing public-private partnerships at the state and local levels, he added.
