TTC Seeks Applicants For Eminent Scholar Chair In Civil Engineering
Louisiana Tech University is now accepting applications and nominations to fill an Eminent Scholar Chair Professorship endowed by the T. L. James family and the Louisiana Board of Regents through an initial investment of $1 million.
The James Chair will provide leadership in expanding the research impact of Louisiana Tech University. Leveraging existing strengths in trenchless technology and underground infrastructure through the Trenchless Technology Center (http://ttc.latech.edu/), the James Chair will have the opportunity to develop new strengths, to collaborate with other strong research centers at Louisiana Tech in cybersecurity, micro/nanosystems and applied physics, and to impact the construction and energy sectors. Louisiana Tech’s interdisciplinary structure and academic programs provide an excellent environment to achieve this expansion.
The ideal candidate will have earned a PhD in an area of engineering, achieved national/international prominence in an area of civil engineering or construction technology, a record of significant success in securing external funding for research in an academic setting, a high level of scholarly productivity and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. The chair is expected to establish a vibrant research program supported by research funding from external sources that involves undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty colleagues.
Louisiana Tech has been ranked in Tier 1 (the top 200) of the “Best National Universities and Colleges” by US News & World Report for five years in a row, and is ranked No. 1 in the nation among public National Universities and No. 6 overall for graduating students with the least average amount of debt. The College of Engineering & Science (http://coes.latech.edu) offers 14 BS degrees including 11 ABET-accredited BS degrees in engineering disciplines, six MS degrees, and four PhD degrees. Annual research expenditures of the college have averaged $15 million for the past five years.
Applicants should send curriculum vitae, statement of research interests and goals, a description of teaching experience and interests, and names and contact information for at least three references in a single PDF file electronically to facsearch@latech.edu with the subject line “<Last Name, First Initial> – James Chair Search.” Review of applications and nominations will begin on Nov. 1, 2015, and will continue until a suitable candidate is identified.
