RJN conducts SSES investigation
Last fall, RJN Group conducted a Phase I Sewer System Evaluation Survey (SSES) investigation for the city of Effingham, IL.
The city is planning to repave streets in the area of the investigation and wanted to know if the sewer system required any rehabilitation work and/or possible excavation before they begin any repaving work. The city is also in the process of reducing Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO).
The field investigation services that RJN provided included the inspection of 63 manholes and smoke testing 15,387 linear feet (62 segments) of sewer pipe. Connectivity of the storm sewers was also determined through smoke testing. The area that the field investigations took place in was primarily residential with only a few commercial businesses. As a part of this work RJN also mapped the storm sewers in the area.
In more company news, Michael N. Young, P.E., branch manager of RJN’s Wheaton office, has been named a new RJN principal. Young will now be the principal-in-charge of RJN’s central U.S. operations.
Since joining RJN in 2007 as branch manager, Young has acted as project director or project manager on several collection system programs and water/wastewater design projects. The design projects have included sanitary sewers, lift stations, force mains, wastewater treatment, storm sewers, water treatment and water mains.
Young has over 18 years of experience in the engineering field. He is a registered professional engineer in both Illinois and Iowa. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois.
