Industry Steps Up In Wake Of Hurricane Sandy
Industry efforts are well underway to assist with the relief efforts stemming from Hurricane Sandy that that devastated portions of the Caribbean, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeastern United States during late October 2012, with lesser impacts in the Southeastern, Midwestern states and Eastern Canada.
The Volvo Group is contributing $100,000 in support of Hurricane Sandy disaster relief efforts with donations of $50,000 to the American Red Cross, $25,000 to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City and $25,000 to Allentown, PA.
“With several major facilities and thousands of employees in regions affected by the storm, we’re keenly aware of the lingering effects of this disaster,” said Dennis Slagle, Volvo Group executive vice president for Trucks Sales & Marketing Americas. “While the headlines are tapering off, the hard work of recovery is very much ongoing, and we want to do our part.”
The New York City donation will help meet immediate needs for food, water and supplies and support long-term relief and restoration projects. Allentown will use the donation to replace the severely damaged roof of the Mack South Fire Station.
Industry veteran, Advanced Drainage Systems Inc. (ADS), also will be offering pipe products to help repair New Jersey’s infrastructure damaged by the two recent major storms, according to Steve Sweeney, president of the New Jersey Senate.
“ADS’ work is well known to me and my constituents thanks to their local manufacturing plant in Logan Township,” said Sweeney. “We are thankful for their assistance as we move forward in rebuilding a better, stronger New Jersey. ADS is helping to set the example that we hope all our friends and neighbors in the business community will follow, because, at the end of the day, we are all in this together.”
The company’s N-12 high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and SaniTite polypropylene (PP) pipe products are manufactured in diameters up to 60 inches. ADS also makes a variety of other products for the storm drain, retention/detention, water quality and sanitary sewer application markets. The Logan Township plant opened in 2007 and is located at the intersection of Center Square and Pedricktown Roads.
Case Construction Equipment shipped more than 3,000 die-cast construction machine models to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, following the recent destruction of the organization’s toy warehouse in Dover, NJ, during Hurricane Sandy.
The detailed scale models of Case earthmoving machines, such as wheel loaders, skid steers and loader/backhoes, will be among the toys distributed this holiday season to children of families in need.
“We are pleased to help bring some small measure of happiness to children and families who have suffered so much because of the devastating storm,” said Jim Hasler, vice president, CNH Construction Equipment.
