Speaker, scholarships highlight UCTA meeting
Attendees and their guests gathered to hear Daniel Magill, president for Avanti International, speak at the June 5 Gulf Coast Chapter UCTA (Underground Construction Technology Association) general luncheon meeting held at the Houston Engineering and Scientific Society Building.
Magill’s presentation, “What is Sabotaging our Underground Systems & How Do We Fight Back?” provided an overview about the process of sewer failures due to groundwater infiltration and how a proactive maintenance program makes municipalities good stewards of tax-payer revenue. He shared insight into how proactive infiltration-control extends the life of the sanitary sewer system, dramatically reducing treatment costs, and protecting quality of life.
Headquartered in Webster, TX, Avanti is the largest U.S. supplier of chemical grouts serving the municipal, industrial and geotechnical markets.
Also at the June meeting, the UCTA Gulf Coast Chapter awarded $8,000 in college scholarships to the following recipients: Carlin Donart, son of Patrick Donart, City of Beaumont, TX; Courtney Elliott, daughter of Doug Elliott, PM Construction; Taylor Calvin, child of Todd Calvin, Binkley & Barfield Inc.; Tania Cenvantes, daughter of Manuel Cervantes, Insituform Technologies; Ian Johnecheck, son of Steven Johnecheck, BRH Garver Construction; Alexander Donath, son of Robert Donath, PM Construction; Lana Donath, daughter of Robert Donath, PM Construction; and Kyle Serres son of Shelley Serres, Lockwood Andrews & Newnam.
