Robotic Cutters: Equipment Spotlight
Robotic cutters from Pipeline Renewal Technologies, CUES, Aries Industries, AMerik Engineering and Global Pipeline Systems.
Pipeline Renewal Technologies
The new Micro Premium lateral cutter delivers 30 percent more cutting power than the smaller Micro Pro, as well as a sophisticated touch-screen interface, a larger reservoir for flushing water, and easier connection/monitoring of supply air. In addition, the form factor of the reel broadens options for installing and transporting the system. Using remote-inflated air bladders, the arm of the new Micro Premium lateral cutter positions itself remotely by creeping and climbing, clamps itself for precise cutting in vertical or horizontal orientation and feeds the cutting head a full four inches. Just 72mm (2.85 inch) in diameter, the arm fits through small openings, and its agile articulation (400-degree rotation and 90-degree swivel) facilitates precision cutting as well as maneuvering through 90-degree bends in four-inch lines. Detachable operator controls consist of twin joysticks, a touch-screen control interface, full QWERTY keyboard, and a 10-inch video display. 866.936.8476, pipelinert.com
CUES
CUES offers the Kangaroo Lateral Reinstatement Cutters for your relining and spot repair requirements. The cutter is rugged, water proof and built to withstand shock and vibration. The Kangaroo Cutters are equally effective in CIPP or fold and form liners and can be installed on any CCTV manufacturer’s truck-mounted system. Both cutter systems operate optimally with 1000-1500 feet of cable and include the Dual Cutter Controller. For more power, increased productivity, and a smoother cut, the small Kangaroo cutter now includes a 0.9 hp air motor that’s designed to operate in 6- to 12-inch relined pipes. Kits are available to retrofit existing units. Rebuild kits are also available for regular service intervals. Use in 8 inch through 12 inch diameter relined pipe. Recommended minimum air requirements are 38 cfm at 125 psi, 15,000 rpm, 6 hp. 800.327.7791, cuesinc.com
Aries Industries
The Wolverine self-propelled, wheeled cutting system provides fast and efficient set-up activities and cutting results. The rugged stainless steel and brass construction allows cutting through difficult liner materials rapidly, precisely and cleanly. A high-power cutting motor delivers up to 3.35 hp at 12,000 rpm. Designed for use in relined 6- to 16-inch pipe, key features include: self-propelled wheeled cutter reel capacity up to 450 feet; self-cleaning camera features wiper blade and water-powered options; water-powered bit cooling options; easy dual joystick control; all-wheel drive for optimal traction; a low center of gravity and weight ensure difficult lines are navigated easily; and various cutting and grinding bits are available to accommodate specific applications. 800.234.7205, ariesindustries.com
AMerik Engineering
With its 800-foot reach from point of entry and a working range of up to 780 feet, the AM-Cutter C165 reopens laterals in lined pipes, and removes protruding elements prior to lining. Made of stainless steel construction, the cutter performs three movements simultaneously – 420-degree rotation, 6-inch forward/backward and 6-inch up/down motions. The 2-hp pneumatic motor with 7,500 rpm operates in 8- to10-inch pipes and with additional extensions in pipes up to 22 inches. In addition, a back part articulates for easy installation in narrow manholes. Cutting heads are available for steel, concrete and vitrified clay grinding, CIPP liners, PVC liners and HDPE liners. 770.924.2899, amerikengineering.com
Global Pipeline Systems
The patented Global Cutter is a unique air tool, tailor-made for reinstating connections in the smallest of pipe. The smaller unit can be easily inserted inside a 4-inch cured section of pipe and maneuvered into place with push rods. With a push of a button the unit is locked in place by expandable skids allowing for stability while cutting out the lining material at the connection. The entire reinstatement process only takes five to 10 minutes with this unit. For 6- to 8-inch diameter pipe, try the company’s larger air cutter. 866.513.0998, globalpipelinesystems.com
