Global demand for water infrastructure equipment to pass $100B by 2016
The Freedonia Group’s new World Water Infrastructure Equipment market research report states that global demand for water infrastructure equipment will grow to exceed $100 billion by 2016, at a projected growth rate of more than six percent per year.
Increased demand is driven by two factors: the increasing maintenance requirement of aging water infrastructure in the developed countries; and the need for water supply and sanitation in developing regions.
In terms of materials, plastic pipes are expected to post strongest gains, taking market shares from other pipe materials.
Freedonia’s report presents historical demand data for the 2001, 2006 and 2011, plus forecasts for 2016 and 2021. Segments covered include pipe, pumps, valves and meters, with both water supply and wastewater included in the coverage.
