Europe’s 2012 gravity pipe usage studied

According to a newly completed market study by Applied Market Information Ltd. (AMI Consulting), in 2012, the total volume of plastic raw materials used in the production of pipes in Europe will exceed 1.9 million tonnes. The total value of the European gravity pipes market is estimated at circa EUR 6.5 billion.

Plastic pipes are already dominating the small-diameter end of the market; on the other hand, pipes made of traditional (non-plastic) still maintain a considerable market share in larger diameters.

Despite a certain weakening of demand caused by the economic uncertainty, the European market for gravity pipes remains an interesting segment, which benefits from significant barriers to entry. In AMI Consulting’s analysis, the following years should see a trend towards industry consolidation and rationalization, with increased involvement of non-European investors.

The new study analyzes the market for gravity (non-pressure) pipes in 30 European countries: the 27 members of the European Union, plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. The research covered the demand for pipes (including traditional materials such as clay, ductile iron and concrete), the supply of plastic pipes, as well as the demand and supply of plastic materials in pipe applications. Detailed quantitative and qualitative information on each of these subjects is presented in the report, including the analysis of drivers, trends and developments, as well as forecasts to 2016.

The European market for gravity pipes is a detailed multi-client report. For more information contact: Noru Tsalic, ph: +44 117 924 9442, e-mail: nt@amiplastics.com.
