Las Vegas, Nev., dark fiber project underway as LSC expands network for AI, data centers
(UI) — Light Source Communications (LSC) has started construction on a 60-mile dark fiber network in Las Vegas, marking its third major project in less than a year.
The new route, designed to support growing demand from data centers and high-performance computing, will connect four cities and multiple data centers in the Las Vegas metro area. LSC said it has already secured two global hyperscalers as anchor tenants for the project.
Las Vegas, categorized as a tier 2 market, has been underserved in connectivity for artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and other intensive computing needs, according to LSC.
"We're thrilled to continue executing our ambitious growth plan and help meet the high demands for connectivity in the Las Vegas area," said Pete Empie Sr., CSO and President of LSC. "Hyperscalers and enterprises alike require high-capacity, low-latency connectivity to compete in today's global economy."
Construction on the network is underway, with design and permitting largely complete. LSC expects to finish the project by late 2025.
The Las Vegas expansion follows projects in Phoenix, Ariz., and Tulsa, Okla. In Phoenix, LSC is building 300 miles of fiber and 15 rings, including connections to the Edged Phoenix data center. Tulsa’s project adds 80 miles to LSC's existing network. All networks will be built underground to maximize security and reliability.
LSC operates as a carrier-neutral provider serving enterprises across the U.S.
