H2scan’s HY-VAULT system improves safety for underground vault transformer monitoring

To reduce transformer failure risks, utilities traditionally use periodic manual oil sampling to assess asset health for these difficult-to-reach and potentially dangerous underground assets. H2scan, a leader in transformer monitoring solutions, has launched its HY-VAULT™ system that provides utilities with a cost-effective continuous monitoring solution to improve the safety and security of the communities they serve.

The HY-VAULT system addresses critical safety and infrastructure challenges for utility companies managing aging underground vault transformers in urban environments. By remotely monitoring dissolved hydrogen gas in transformers, the system allows maintenance crews to prioritize those transformers at risk of failure. By reducing the frequency of manual oil samples, personnel have less exposure to potentially hazardous environments.

This innovative solution combines H2scan's new GRIDSCAN® 5015 or 5000 family of hydrogen sensors with an AVO-1 interface, creating the industry's only high-concentration monitoring solution specifically designed for vault transformers. By enabling reliable monitoring in previously inaccessible locations, HY-VAULT supports the shift from scheduled oil sampling to condition-based maintenance (CBM), minimizing unnecessary maintenance and potential risk to personnel.
