Sen. Ossoff's law to upgrade East Point, Ga., water infrastructure signed

(UI) — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff’s legislation to improve East Point’s water infrastructure has been signed into law, marking a significant step toward addressing the city’s growing needs.

The East Point Water Infrastructure Enhancement Act was incorporated into the Water Resources Development Act reauthorization earlier this month. The law expands an existing authorization for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to support water infrastructure projects in East Point, with the goal of improving quality of life and enhancing resilience in the city.

With this new law, Congress can allocate additional funds for water infrastructure projects, enabling the Army Corps to collaborate with East Point on these upgrades.

“As the City of East Point continues to grow, there’s a need to strengthen water infrastructure for families and businesses. That’s why bringing Republicans and Democrats together, I passed into law my legislation to strengthen the U.S. Army Corps’ partnership with East Point to upgrade infrastructure and quality of life,” Sen. Ossoff said.

East Point Mayor Deana Holiday Ingraham expressed gratitude for the law’s passage and President Biden’s support, noting that the legislation enables the city to pursue up to $20 million in funding from the Army Corps to enhance its water infrastructure. “This is monumental for East Point and we are truly grateful to Senator Ossoff for ensuring authorization of funding that will positively impact East Pointers and our other water customers for generations to come,” Ingraham said.

Sen. Ossoff has been active in securing resources for water infrastructure projects across Georgia. Earlier this year, he secured federal funding for College Park to install a new water storage tank, and helped Rockdale County replace its outdated water pump station. In 2022, he co-authored the Chattahoochee River Act, a groundbreaking law to support water projects along the Chattahoochee River.
