Kinder Morgan AZ, NV fuel pipelines resume service after 2-day shutdown due to LA fires
According to The Arizona Republic, fuel pipelines serving Arizona reopened Friday morning after a two-day shutdown made necessary by wildfire-driven power outages in Southern California.
Houston-based Kinder Morgan said the fires weren’t directly disrupting its California operations but announced Wednesday that two pipelines, one serving Arizona and another serving the Las Vegas area, had been shut down because of power outages.
On Friday morning, Kinder Morgan informed The Arizona Republic the pipelines, called the SFPP West and CALNEV pipelines, had resumed service.
Kinder Morgan transports gasoline to Arizona via two separate underground pipeline networks, one originating in California and one in Texas. The Texas pipeline was not affected by the disruption.
The pipelines serving Arizona and other Western states carry gasoline, jet fuel and diesel fuel. One 515-mile segment of the SFPP, or Santa Fe Pacific Pipelines, transports fuel from the Los Angeles area to Phoenix.
Another line, 400 miles in length and unaffected by the fires, transports fuel west from El Paso, Texas, to Tucson and Phoenix. The pipelines also link to short-term storage facilities, truck-loading terminals and more.
Kinder Morgan also operates an extensive natural-gas pipeline network, mainly serving other parts of the country.
