Sewer upgrade to begin under Nautical Mile in St. Clair Shores, Mich.
(UI) — An extensive underground construction project is set to begin in February 2025 under the Nautical Mile in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, according to ClickOnDetroit.
The project will involve the installation of a new sewer line beneath Jefferson Avenue, aiming to reduce sewer discharges into Lake St. Clair.
The work is scheduled to last until early 2027. While the project will primarily take place underground, it is expected to cause some disruption to traffic on Jefferson Avenue as construction crews work in the area.
Currently, only one pipe connects the storage facilities that regulate sewer water, creating a bottleneck. By adding a second, 60-inch pipe between Nine Mile and 10.5 Mile Road, the project aims to improve flow and capacity, thereby reducing the frequency of discharges.
