Calgary faces water restrictions amid Bearspaw pipe repairs
(UI) — Crews have started critical repairs on Calgary’s Bearspaw South Feeder Main, with work slated to continue through September. The repairs, which began on Aug. 26, involve eight work sites and 21 pipe segments that need attention along the main water supply line.
City officials are urging Calgarians to conserve water during this period to ensure there’s enough for essential uses. Stage 4 Outdoor Water Restrictions are in effect, banning all outdoor potable water use. Bylaw enforcement is actively monitoring compliance and issuing fines of up to $3,000 for violations.
Construction is progressing across multiple sites, including 33 Ave N.W. and Shouldice Park, where crews have already excavated over half of the segments needing repair. The first milestone was reached today, with crews pouring concrete around the first repaired pipe segment. Further excavation and repairs are scheduled to continue at various sites over the coming days.
City officials stress the importance of public cooperation in conserving water during this critical repair period to maintain essential water services.
