West Virginia American Water launches 1,360-foot pipeline upgrade in Cross Lanes
(UI) — West Virginia American Water has begun a $460,000 project to replace 1,360 feet of water main along Greywood Drive in Cross Lanes, West Virginia, aiming to improve local water service reliability.
The construction work, which started in late October, includes replacing outdated 6-inch and 2-inch pipes from Wick Lane to Ridgecross Drive.
This upgrade project, expected to finish by the end of December, involves weekday construction between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., with traffic restrictions in place during work hours. Once completed, the project will connect all customer service lines to the new main, enhancing service stability and reducing the likelihood of future disruptions.
"These infrastructure upgrades are an important investment in public health and safety," the company noted, emphasizing that the improvements also contribute to local economies. Studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, approximately 15 jobs are created.
Over the past decade, West Virginia American Water has invested over $736 million in statewide upgrades, including the installation of 168 miles of new water mains. The company’s interactive upgrade map provides updates on these ongoing infrastructure projects.
During the project, residents may experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, or reduced water pressure, with crews working efficiently to minimize these inconveniences.
