Construction set to start on $627 million Toledo Bay View wastewater facility in 2025

OHIO (UI) — Construction on the Bay View Wastewater Treatment Plant in Toledo is set to begin in Spring 2025 following the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency's completion of a Limited Environmental Review.

The review found no significant environmental impact, allowing for the transfer of $13.5 million from the Ohio Water Pollution Control Loan Fund to help finance the project.

The upgrade at the Bay View facility is part of a three-phase project, with Phase I focusing on modernizing the chemical building and improving worker safety. The work is set to modernize Toledo's aging wastewater infrastructure and is expected to take 10-15 years to complete.

The project will be funded by revenue from sewer fees, which are not expected to increase specifically for this upgrade. The Ohio EPA noted that the project is a cost-effective solution, thanks to low-interest financing through the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund.

The total cost of the Bay View Wastewater Treatment Plant improvements is estimated at $627 million.
