Volvo debuts advanced excavator series with major upgrades
(UI) — Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has launched a new range of excavators, marking the most significant update to its lineup in 20 years. The new series boasts up to 15% greater fuel efficiency, enhanced productivity, increased safety, and several operator-friendly features.
The initial launch includes the ECR145 short swing, EC210, EC230, EC370, EC400, and EC500 crawler excavators for North America, with more models to follow in the coming months.
“This new excavator series is the realization of our commitment to our customers. Every design change, innovation, and weld were made with our customers' needs top of mind,” said Scott Young, Head of Region North America at Volvo CE. "These updates will substantially impact their productivity, uptime, employee satisfaction, and ultimately, their success."
The new excavators feature an optimized electro-hydraulic system, a smart cooling system, and engine speed regulation for higher torque at lower RPM, resulting in a 15% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to previous models. Enhanced hydraulics provide better machine control and smoother movement, while new work modes and a creep travel mode improve load management and reduce spillage.
Safety has also been a priority in the new series, with the introduction of Volvo Smart View with Obstacle Detection, providing 360-degree visibility and distinguishing between objects and humans. Additional lights on the cab, boom, and arm enhance visibility in dim conditions.
Operator comfort has been improved with an updated seat design, better ventilation, new footrest support, keyless engine start, larger heated side mirrors, an in-cab wireless phone charger, a built-in cooler/heater compartment, and additional sunscreens and storage areas. Safety railings and footsteps have been relocated for better accessibility, and new DEF sight gauges and splash guards have been added.
The new models also feature the latest generation Co-Pilot in-cab tablet, offering applications like on-board weighing and in-field design.
Maintenance has been made easier with a 50% increase in hydraulic oil life and extended service intervals of up to 6,000 hours for long-life hydraulic oil. Volvo CE continues to back its excavators with a Lifetime Frame and Structure Warranty and offers service contracts and financial services.
