Senators secure $28.6 million for Arizona lead pipe replacement
(UI) — Arizona Senators Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema have secure over $28.6 million for lead pipe replacement in the state to bolster clean drinking water efforts.
The funding, sourced from the EPA's Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, aims to safeguard the health of Arizona families by addressing drinking water contamination.
Lead exposure, particularly concerning for children and adults, underscores the urgency of this investment. This initiative is part of a broader commitment within the bipartisan infrastructure law, which earmarks over $8 billion for water infrastructure improvements across the American West, including upgrading aging infrastructure, bolstering water storage, implementing water recycling measures, fortifying drought contingency plans, and enhancing dam safety.
Sinema led bipartisan negotiations, with support from Republican Senator Rob Portman, ensuring a collaborative effort to prioritize clean water access. The bipartisan infrastructure law garnered widespread support from various organizations, underscoring its significance in advancing national water infrastructure priorities.
