Delmont, Pa. to create stormwater authority board
(UI) —Officials in Delmont, Pennsylvania voted to create a stormwater authority board on Tuesday, March 14. The department would have the authority to charge residents according to their contribution to the town’s stormwater runoff collection system.
The stormwater authority board will consist of five members that will handle state consent agreements and several million-dollar sewer and stormwater developments. Nearby towns like Monroeville and North Huntington have enforced similar fees or are on the way to creating their own stormwater governing board.
Delmont officials will need to appoint board members and an experienced engineer to research billing requirements after filing the authority with the Pennsylvania Department of State.
Residents will pay fees based on their property size and stormwater runoff features. According to Councilman Stan Cheyne, 80 properties will need to make repairs.
Public Works Head Bill Heaps will perform testing to find illegal connects such as stormwater down-spouts entering sewage systems. According to Heaps, the most common problem appears to be broken sewer vent caps.
