Elizabethton, Tenn., increases charges for water, sewer services

(UI) – According to WJHL, a city in Tennessee has approved its budget for 2024 with new charge increases for water and sewer services. Elizabethton's city council approved the budget 6-1, with water and sewer service charges increasing by $1.50.
Elizabethton officials say the price hike is “necessary” because of “increased costs,” WJHL reported. According to Elizabethton Mayor Curt Alexander, costs are “going out of sight between chemicals, labor, things that we need to spend to generate water just cost more.”
The budget approval also came with a property tax rate increase, as well as approval for various public projects across the city.
