City of Signal Hill deliberates on new stormwater project at Reservoir Park

(UI) — According to the Signal Tribune, Signal Hill is weighing an option to transform Reservoir Park into a new water conservation project that will decrease stormwater runoff in the city. If the project receives the green light, officials will install an infiltration system beneath the park.

Presently, an existing storm drain in the park directs all stormwater runoff through a water line controlled by the Los Angeles County Flood Control District. The drain directs the collected stormwater to an infiltration system located at the Long Beach Airport.

However, the new project will involve building a 66-inch diameter pipeline to “intercept” the Long Beach pipeline and direct some of the water towards the new infiltration system. Stormwater will then flow from the storm drain to an underground chamber, where it will gradually flow back into the earth through a gravel bottom.
