Biden administration invests $115 million into Jackson water system repairs
(UI) – According to CNN, President Joe Biden announced that Jackson, Mississippi, has received over $100 million in funding to repair the city’s broken water system. The funding comes after repeated failures of the city’s water infrastructure, including the August 2022 breakdown that left over 150,000 residents without clean drinking water.
Michael Regan, Environmental Protection Agency administrator, said that the first round of funding will go towards “priority areas” to improve drinking water quality while the entire system is upgraded. Regan said that money “will go towards continuing to stabilize this system, it will go to plugging some of the leaks in the distribution system, shoring up that integrity, ensuring that the pressure continues to stay at a certain rate,” CNN reported.
The money will come from funding from 2022’s spending bill, which includes $600 million for Jackson’s water system.
