Alexandria City Council to propose raising stormwater utility fee by 5%

(UI) – The Alexandria City Council is set to discuss a potential increase in the stormwater utility fee at its next meeting. If the proposed increase is approved, residents can expect to see a 5% raise in their utility fees, from $294 to $308.70. The change comes as the city has battled intense flooding, with stormwater utility rates increasing from $140 t0 $280 in 2021 and up to the current $294 in 2022.

This fee is used to fund stormwater management infrastructure and programs, which are essential for preventing flooding and protecting water quality in the city. The city will use the money to improve operations and maintenance of public stormwater infrastructure, stormwater quality incentives, and flood management programs. The Stormwater Utility Fee will also help Alexandria City meet federal MS4 stormwater mandates.
