Illinois Utility Issues Water Boil Order
BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Numerous water main breaks in the metro-east area near St. Louis has resulted in a boil order for most of St. Clair County and parts of Monroe County in Illinois.
Illinois American Water on Wednesday issued the boil order for most of its metro-east service area, which includes Belleville, East St. Louis, Alorton and Washington Park among other towns. The boil order also affects utilities and communities that buy water wholesale from Illinois American.
Illinois American official Karen Cotton says boil orders usually last 36 to 48 hours, and customers will be notified when it’s lifted.
Users should bring their water to a rolling boil for 5 minutes before drinking or cooking. The water is OK for bathing, washing.
The utility also wants customers to conserve water and to restrict all non-essential water use until further notice.
